I’ve been tasked on designing the initial network systems for a new software company. This will grow in short order, so expandability should be taken into account. Initially there will be servers, and about 10-15 clients. Some clients will be programmers working remotely connected via VPN. We will need e-mail server, web, ftp, VPN, and whatever else you may suggest. My first thoughts are a Win/2000 server with two Linux servers. The Win/2000 server will support client computers and staff with VPN, while the two Linux boxes will support ftp, Web (via Apache), mail (via sendmail). I’m asking for suggestions on other needed equipment (routers and firewalls) and the like, as well as anything else your experience may see as needed. We will be connected to the net via a T1. The point of this, is that this will be the core system to a soon to be large company. References to papers, and your experience are appreciated.
