Affects of wrong Server time

We just has the clock on one of our servers on a domain change (how?) the current day 8 years from now.
What we found was that the users passwords expired for everyone on the domain but those whose Profile properties had “Password never Expires” checked.
We have changed back the time on the server, however that has not corrected the problem for users who still had not logged in. We checked the “Password Never Expires” for users. Still it did not have an affect.
Can anyone explain or give ideas as to why the current changes manually made have no affect on the profiles as they exsisted when the time changed to a year in the far future?
