aftermath malicious software infestation

By Daz'n'Ash ·
The computer was infected with the malicious Antivirus 2008 (aka anti virus XP, AV 2009) and using Spyware Doctor I successfully removed it, however, now that almost everything is normal again, one thing is still a problem. I cannot restore the active desktop at all. The desktop wallpaper cannot be changed as the selections are all greyed out. How do I fix this?

Click on Start, Run and type in regedt32 and press Enter.
Navigate to this path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Right click on System and select Export and then give it a name and Save it. Right click on it again and select Delete.
Close out of the Registry Editor and restart the PC.

In the same path change all the DWoRD values to 0 from 1. An example of what you might see is "NoDispScrSavePage"
