AGP VIDEO CARD

By oldtimes4519 ·
RECENTLY I BOUGHT A ASROCK P4I65G MOTHERBOARD. IT HAS AN INTERGRATED VGA VIDEO. IT HAS AN AGP SLOT. I AM TRYING TO INSTALL A ATI RADEON 9200SE VIDEO CARD. IT WILL INSTALL BUT ALL I CAN SEE ON THE SCREEN ARE STRIPES OF COLOR. I CAN READ THE ICONS BUT
VERY DIFFICULT. I TRIED TO CHANGE THE DISPLAY SETTING BUT IT ALWAYS GOES BACK TO 4 BITS. CAN YOU HELP ME SORT OUT THIS PROBLEM?

What you need to do is turn off the
intergrated VGA video in the CMOS. You
probably need to hit the "DELETE" button
while your computer starts up but depending
on the manufacturer it might be a different
button like F8. The instructions are
probably flashed at you every time you
restart along with a version # & "AMI BIOS"
or "Phoenix - AWARD BIOS". Either way, if
you press the right button before the
Windows bootloader NTLDR.EXE takes over,
you can change a lot of basic settings for
your hardware, like IRQ & onboard video.

If you don't know what an IRQ is, don't
mess with it! Just don't change anything
in the BIOS except to turn the onboard VGA
from "ON" to "OFF" & you'll be fine. Press
the 10th "function" key (F10) when you've
made the change, then "Y", and your new
video card should work.

Another good suggestion

If it doesn't work, return it.

But, before you do that, double check that the card is seated properly, all the way down, latched and secured.
