What are your thoughts on human lifespan in web development given the rise of Durable, Rebrand, ChatGPT, and other tools?

Why did you choose the phrase “human lifespan”?

If I ignore that, I can answer that developers are already being displaced. But not all of them.

So as to far off, this is happening now, not later.

Developers won’t be quickly replaced by AI. But with AI, developers will be able to accomplish more and do it better.
These entities are unable to make choices. They depend on data and are prompt. When it changes, you could start to worry. I don’t think it’s intelligent, so no worries.

AI is completely dependent on two things, 1. the data set and 2. the prompt. If you can’t or don’t know how to ask VERY specifically what you’re looking for, then AI loses its power. AI also doesn’t produce flawless code. It sometimes makes assumptions, uses outdated libraries, or doesn’t do exactly what you want. How is a non-tech person to fix any of these problems? The issue with the data set is that you need A LOT of data to train these things. There are a lot of photos of human faces, so AI can generate one of those pretty easily, but there aren’t as many photos of human hands, so AI tends to generate photos of humans with 12 fingers on each hand. The tech is promising, but we’re not there yet, and once creators start suing the AI companies to prevent them from using their content in their models, it will be a lot harder for AI companies to train their models. I think someday AI will be a great tool for automating some aspect of the work, so it will enable devs to produce websites much quicker, but it won’t replace us.

However, it is anticipated that human developers will continue to play a significant part in the development of novel and distinctive web solutions. While acknowledging the continued importance of human expertise in this field, it is essential to keep an eye on developments in AI and how they may affect web development.

Is the Web Developer isn’t being replaced. The company I work with, didn’t hire one because the tools have obviated the need.

If you are a Web Developer (and I’m painting with a wide brush here and not being specific about which type or sub-genre) to survive you’ll dive into AI and embrace it.

Ignore AI+ML at your own peril.

I believe that the rise of Durable, Rebrand, ChatGPT, and other tools will streamline the web development process, but I don’t anticipate that AI will entirely replace developers anytime soon. While AI can assist developers in various tasks, it cannot yet fully replicate the creativity, problem-solving ability, and adaptability of human developers. However, AI will continue proliferating and becoming more integrated into the web development process, enhancing developers’ capabilities and productivity. The timeline for the widespread adoption of AI in web development is difficult to predict, but it is likely to be a gradual process rather than a sudden shift.

I think if you don’t want to prepare or specialize in your work. Sooner or late, the AI will replace all of us.

I know that sounds catastrophic, but the improvements in AI development give me the point.

In my humble opinion, AI will not supplant developers rather it will enhance their productivity. It will only replace the ones with very limited knowledge of the field. If someone don’t want to be replaced by AI then he should level up his skills and try to use AI for his benefits.
