Hi,

Does anybody know where the AOL instant Messaging messages are saved at? My boss is asking me to audit one of our suspecting employee for illegal activities. My boss believes that the employee is leaving some of his trace through AIM but I have no idea how to retrieve those data. Can anybody tell me if this is even possible? If so how can I accomplish this? Thanks!

If memory serves me correctly I think that feature needs to be turned on and is no on by default. If there is a concern about what the person is doing or typing there are several spy programs out there that will capture keystrokes and take screen shots and can send them to an email address.

If your boss is really concerned he wont mind spending some money on Pearl Software. www.pearlsoftware.com. You should be able to get just one license or more. this software will capture all traffic and where its coming fromand allow you to see the chat sessions, emails, web pages visited etc as long as the traffic is not encrypted.

This should work for you...

I know there are software that does keystroke recording and among other stuffs, but what I was looking for is to be able to do it without installing new software. Beside, it is too late to install software right now since the person is no longer here. My boss wanted to retrieve the info for proof.

Have you tried contacting AIM?
I'm sure they keep logs, but not sure for how long. You may need a court order too...
