Is this ISDN or Analog? How have you connected the modem to the phone system? Check your manual, you have probably not connected your modem correctly to phone line..., or are using a ISDN Modem on a analog system or vice versa...

You'll probably need ADSL phone line filters. You have to put them in all the phone terminals that you have. They're not expensive.

If the modem connects and works but the rest of the phones are completely dead then I would look to the physical phone wiring in your home/office or go back to the provider and let them know.

I had a similar situation with regular phones where a user had the connection wires crossed on 1 extension. When they picked up that extension all the other phones died. If they used any other extension would kill the first phone. Correcting the wiring solved their problem.

Cheers.

I fully agree with ReWrite.
Some or all of the phone wiring is backwards.

You can pick up a low cost phone jack tester at Radio Shack that will tell you if the phone wires are in the proper phase.

Another possibility, is that a transformer is connected to the phone line to provide power to light up the old Princess phones. This could also cause a problem when the DSL modem is connected.

When I install DSL, I install a POTS splitter right where the phone line enters the residence. This way, you have just 1 filter and it is easy to check if there are phone line problems.
