Alien User Account

By yakuz4 ·
When I ran a net user command on my PC, I?ve noticed username ?support_388945a0?, I?ve also noticed the username under Group Policy.msc \ Security Settings \ Local Policies\ User right assignment- Policy = Log on as batch job. However, it doesn?t show under Control Panel \ User Account. Can anyone please tell me if the username is a default XP Professional user and is it related to any programs or software that I?ve used. Will it be save to delete the user account?

These accounts are often set up by the manufacturer and are intended for support. They are normally disabled which is why they do not appear in User Accounts under Control Panel.

If you right-click My Computer and select Manage, you should see an entry in the right hand pane named Local Users and Groups - This will list ALL the accounts on your machine. Those with a red X are disabled accounts.

I would not delete any disabled accounts until after checking your documentation or contacting the manufacturer to find out what exactly the account is intended for.

You can delete it if you really want to but it may hinder any support/troubleshooting the computer manufacturer may wish to do at a later date.

Good luck

This is a default user used for support purposes; the user name "SUPPORT_388945a0" is a fixed name used on all XP Pro installs.

It is a member of the Local Group "HelpServicesGroup."
It is not a member of any Global Groups.

You can view its properties by running "net user SUPPORT_388945a0".
