TR members do not assist password recovery. Do not respond to this thread

The members of TechRepublic – A Resource for IT Professionals, will not assist anyone in the recovery of lost passwords. You may have a legitimate reason to recover a password. However, we cannot verify your motives and will therefore not assist anyone in what may be an attempt at gaining unauthorized access to a computer system. Due to the open nature of this forum, any assistance given to help circumvent security measures, even for legitimate purposes, would be available for unscrupulous individuals to use for illegitimate purposes. This is a risk that we the members of TechRepublic will not take. Please do not ask questions of this nature on TechRepublic.

If you have a legitimate need to circumvent a password scheme, please contact the vendor for the software / hardware and request their assistance. E.g. Windows XP password recovery issues should be taken up with Microsoft’s technical support, Phoenix BIOS password recovery issues should be taken up with Phoenix Technologies, etc.. To those viewing this post: Please DO NOT respond any further to this thread.

This template has been released under the GNU public license and you are encouraged to use it as a standard reply for questions of similar nature, provided that you make any modifications available to other users.

So if you want a way to Crack the Password your out of luck but if you have a Hostage Ware Infection post back with the exact details and OS in use. Then enable Peer Mail and someone may be able to help you. Of course recovering your Data from your Backup is really the right way to proceed.

In case you don’t think that Backup’s are necessary there are only 2 types of Computer Users those who have Lost All their Data and those who are going to.

We recognize that the answers are out there. We simply do not provide them. That is a peer policy and one that the peers are careful to enforce.

Without knowing the person asking the question, I will not chance that they are who and what they claim to be. If you called me to help you crack a password, I would pass on the job. Microsoft will not provide this information.

Hal’s answer was correct. This is something we don’t consider acceptable.

I won’t post the link but Bill did do an IT dojo segment on this topic on the 23rd of June. When I viewed this, I was sure that this would be unacceptable to repost to questions like this. Just seems ironic that there is a fix to his question, that was posted by this site, yet its still unethical.

Not a ‘fix’ – only stated in the Dojo as a ‘possible solution’ …

With just as much chance of trashing the system completely.

Anything that might trash a system cannot be termed as a ‘fix’.

So what WOULD be unethical would be for someone to post a link (thereby guaranteeing it’s suitability) to something that could destroy the OP’s entire system.

Also if ‘generation gimme’ can’t be bothered to look for something why should we hand it to them on a virtual plate? Particularly when it doesn’t always work. 😉

You may be able to recover the data

      by brudab ·

In reply to all account lucked

If the files were not encrypted, you may be able to recover the data by connecting the hard drive to another computer with its own bootable OS.

Once the OS is loaded, you should be able to access the hard drive and copy off your data.
