All drive letters mapped

By pjs.2am ·
I have a problem with several winxpsp2 clients on a w2k3 domain. All drive letters from F: to Z: are mapped to the same server share and are labelled as diconected but still access the same share mostly. My login scripts map 4 drive letters to 4 different shares. mostly the first share gates mapped to all other drive letters. This seems to be random. Any ideas?

How have you coded the mappings?
Standard procedure is something like this:

net use h: \\server\myshare /persistent:no

Using * to use the next available drive letter is not a good idea.

All mapped drive letters are one I have chosen.
eg net use w: \\servername\sharename

The login script only has 4 actual mapped drive letters but all letters from f: to z: appear in my computer and all are mapped to one of the shares but report it as being disconnected.

Try adding a line in the login scripts just before the drive mapping lines to delete any previous mappings. This should take care of all the "extra" un-needed maps.

SYNTAX: net use * /delete /y

I too had the issue of mappings being retained for some reason, but inputting this command solved the issue.

Good Luck!

Shaun.

Many drive letters mapped to same share

by lionel.dube In reply to All drive letters mapped

i am having the same issue, happens when I browse network shares or PC's ie:\\pcname\c$
or\\server\sharename
hours later I notice several drive letters mapped to the same share almost. I have read other forums that speak to MS findfast office 97 - n/a here or win nt4.0

have you had any response or found a cause for this?

Im win xp office2003

I am seeing the same problem! It maps all drive letters to one of the other server maps that you have. You can boot into safe mode and they go away far and hour or two.
But then come right back. It you right click the mappings it tell you that it is not mapped. By any chance are any of you running AutoCAD Land desktop?
The only other thing I see that has changed it the new MS search that is installed with updates.
