All Excel files open in Excel 97

I have a user that when he opens up a Excel document, all the excel documents in his default file location will open up, causing Excel to hang. Is there a way to solve this? I have tried re-installing Excel and it did not help. I have temporarily put Excel into Safe Mode, to avoid all files from opening, however, this limits the use of customizations and macros.

There is a folder called XLstart under the install folder of office (or just the excel install). Check to make sure no spreadsheets are in this folder otherwise excel will open all of them everytime its launched. I hope this helps out.

There were no files in the folder, thank-you anyway.

Is the user opening a particular file to cause this or any Excel file? Remove all his files from his default file location. This will allow you to start Excel in normal mode to better troubleshoot. Once open in normal mode look for any macros or 'customizations' that may be causing this.

No this did not help, the problem is occurring when any file is being openend.
