All laptops on network perform slowly.

By rguess ·
I have W2K AD Domain with about 40 clients. Most are desktops, but there are about 5 laptops on the network with all OS's being either W98 or Wme. Desktops perform fine , but all of the latops are just crawling at a snail's pace. Has anyone ever experianced a similar problem or know how to fix this problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had this problem in particulair with a certain model of laptop, Solo 5300. On the offending laptops I ended up removing the card from the Device Manager along with clear out the Network options off all the protocols and rebuilding them from scratch. The problem went away. Also bear in mind these are Win98 Clients.

You should check a couple of things:
1. WHat network protocols are notebooks using?
Netbios or some other protocols can be very consuming
2. Power settings of notebooks?
Especially network cards, try turning ALL power saving features off and seewhat happens.
3. Did you check on manufacturers site for any updates or patches? With notebooks, this is very usefull!
