There we have it,I bought a new computer box for one of my boards. The board looks fine but there is some dicoloration on the back.Dusty cream color that makes the board look broken across a path between two posts, say red...black.There is power between these points, but will this be bad news later. It is the only other 500mhz board I have.Viaboard a 9000Y BY THE MEM sticks.I read some where about this board. What other points do I check to see if this board is good.

Check the power on the to connector where the motherboard connects to the power supply. If all voltages read what they are suppose to read. I would say your board will be ok. If it is drawing to much power. I would say it is only a matter of time before the board is no good or it damages other components. If it is not drawing enouph power than it is already cooked.

There is that 100 watt output power supply thingy that bothers me.The board does not power with it.To small maybe?Need two?

The power supply to board connectors are as follows:pin 9 purple +5vsb,8 green p-on,14 grey p-good,there is only a total of 100 watts output,is this the power supply size?Other than the voltage to board amounts a 533mhz celeron should work, correct? The board is good up to 800mhz,P2/P3.

A 100 watt is never sufficient for a PC! It is an easy way to cut the sale price however, you get what you pay for.

The case unit came with this 100 watt ps at 140.00 of course cd,floppy included and says it is an atx.The gents say it can be used with pentium 2/3,big power supplies are no really needed. If 140.00 was the sale price,I guess I have been had.A whole computer pack for this system is only 300.00,including monitor.50.00 board,50.00 20gig hdd 20.00 32meg vid card,100.00 256meg nvram, free monitor, sound and speak 50.00.Plus tax.The only difference is I found a better case ,350watt ps 69.00.I still had to buy cd and floppy. So see above question.

To your question about the MB. Yes your board will die some time in the future, its just a question of when. In reference to the PS, inspite of voltage regulation the current increases as the voltage drops per Ohms law. When the current increases conductors (circuit traces)become heating elements, at some point they become filaments, this generally preceeds failure and smoke by a brief period of time. Voltage regulation assumes sufficient capacity, 100 watts is NOT sufficient regardless of what the gent told you, he either doesn't know better or lied.

I totaly agree on the power supply, there has to be sufficient amounts to run a half decent system, one serge can fire a board that does not have a power supply of at least 350 to 400W.I have seen even a 350 watt supply go up with minimal add ons. That would be why this system would not boot. This MB is alright. It has a standard safey that at least 350w be used, softpower-on and a circuit like breaker at the plugin. This I would guess for over under power. They are using these 100W ps in 300 mhz systems,90 day warranty. What a ripoff. So I guess it is one for you great help, thanks.
