Ok, so I couldn?t limit myself to ten.
In no particular order:
Good Will Hunting. Robin Williams, Matt Damon. Funny, poignant, happy ending.
Shoot To Kill. Tom Berenger and Sidney Poitier. One suspenseful moment makes this one, for me. Sid and Tom are crossing a minor canyon. Something goes wrong with a rope for one of them (sorry don?t remember which) and he goes slamming into the cliff face on the other side. I jumped up and yelled ?BOOM!? as he hit the cliff face, embarrassing myself and my date in the process.
Guarding Tess. Nicholas Cage, Shirley MacClaine. Excellent, possible ?chick flick?. Humorous, touching, happy ending.
Enemy Mine. Are we really so different?
Brainstorm. Christopher Walken, Natalie Wood, Louise Fletcher. An early, and intriguing look at virtual reality. Natalie Wood?s last movie, she died during filming.
Suddenly Last Summer. Elizabeth Taylor, Katherine Hepburn, Montgomery Clift. Awesome study of High Society and the lengths to which people might go to maintain appearance.
Wait Until Dark. Audrey Hepburn. Serious psycho-suspense with an excellent ending.
Silence of the Lambs. Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster. On the edge of my seat throughout. Hitchcock couldn?t have done better.
Big Fish. Directed by Tim Burton. Super cast, Jessica Lange, Albert Finney, Robert Guillaume, and Danny DeVito ? among others. Has potential to be qualified as a ?chick flick?, but I think it?s way beyond that.
The Matrix. To my mind, by far the best of the man vs. machine movies. Excellent symbolism throughout.
Awakenings. Robin Williams, Robert DeNiro. Superb.
Forrest Gump. Umm? Too good.
The Green Mile. Another Hanks. Wow. Excellent.
Scent of a Woman. Another excellent. One of the best things Al ever did. IMO.
Dead Poets Society. Wow.
Roll, Bounce. Just for fun and a happy ending. Damn, the roller skating floats my boat.
Anything Mel Brooks. 😀
