Alphabetizing Columns in Excel

By warrantytom ·
I have a client that uses MS Office 97. For some time now they have been entering data into this spreed sheet. One of the bosses tried to search for some information and was upset to find that none of the data was entered into this sheet in alphabetical order. In column A1 thru A842 I need to alphabetize this for them. Fortunatly I did not find this out untill late friday. I need a solution by monday morning. I hope you can help me out. Thanks Tom

With your mouse, choose a cell in the column to be sorted. "Do not" highlight the entire column. On your toolbar there is a button that has A-Z and a down arrow. Click the A-Z button and this will sort your spreadsheet based on the data in the column with the highlighted cell.

All other data in the rows should follow their respective sorted cells. Verify this before saving your changes. Hope this helps.

The easiest way is if there is no header (like Marketing Presentation 2000) in the first few rows of the spreadsheet. . . .
Click in A1
Click on ?Data? from the pull down menu
Select ?Sort?.
This will display a pop up window. IF your columns have headers like Name, Phone etc select the name of the column you want to sort by and click on OK.
If you don?t have headers over the columns, select the column you want to sort by i.e. A, B, C, etc.
