Am I thick ?

By lw ·
Ok,

I was defragging my hard drive when I noticed the defragger saying it was moving file A0002409.EXE

That's odd , I thought.

Later I defragged another hard drive. Same thing A0002409.EXE was being moved.

Very odd, I thought.

I havehunted, searched , scoured. The file does not exist on any drive on my machine.

I have searched using windows search facility, DOS dir /s including searcing in hidden folders for hidden files.

I Cannot find it. What is it? Do I have a virus ?

I searched the WWW for A0002409 and got Five results, all of which were obscure and most of which lead to dead links or created pop-up windows with 404 errors....

I have scanned with Norton Anti Virus which I have kept completely up to date...

Help!!!!

I am assuming this is some file that Windows defrag has created for temporary purposes. I recommend getting a disk defragmenter for dos so that nothing occurs in the background while your disk is being defragmented.

You may or may not be "thick", but you are transparent.

What program did you use to defrag your drive with?

If it was a program other than the native windows defrag program then I would not give much credence to it.

But to be on the safe side... You will need to set your views up correctly before searching for the file.

Open up my computer( assuming this is 2K)
Tools/Folder Options/View/
Show Hidden-Uncheck Hide file extensions-and uncheck hide protected system files.

Then go to Start/Find and search for
A0002409.* Make sure you select all drives.

If it is not there and you used the defrag program from norton, I would just let it be.
(I personnaly would get rid of the program)

Defrag your system using Only the native defrag that the OS shipped with.

Make sure that nothing else is running during the defrag.

9 out of 10 times, to get the full effect of the defrag, you should run it more then once.
One after the other.

Plus, before you defrag, you should get rid of any files that you no longer need. Not afterthe defrag. That is counter productive.
