I have worked in IT for 3 years while going through school. I currently have an Associate?s degree in Computer Science and have been out of school for 1 year. I started late with computers mainly because my family never could afford one. I tend to learn things very fast and graduated with a 3.89 GPA and have sense gotten a job as Sys Admin for a Software Developer. I have been here for over a year, but in that time I have maintained our Microsoft, Linux, and UNIX servers and desktops. I also maintain our website, security, and have designed User and Security policies as well as implement a DR plan. I started at 40K and just received a 4% raise, but I was really hoping for more since I was straight out of school and needed to prove myself. I will be taking my CCNA and MCSA soon and going back to school for my Bachelors.
Bottom line is that I have 3 kids, wife, 2 mortgages, and 2 cars to pay for and almost out of savings. It seems at this rate I will be able to save for my kids’ college and retirement when my youngest is in high school and I am wanting to retire in a 10 years. Not quite enough time.
Edit for spelling
