Amazing appearing + disappearing hard drive

By ooembino ·
I wonder if this is something obvious.

I have, nor has anyone else round here, partitioned my C drive. This afternoon, I noticed an additional 'Local hard drives (C:)'

It was there for about 30 mins and has now gone.

I have never noticed this before so im wondering if its part of some kind of process thats gone over my head (evidently I don't know much yet. Its a family business Im no IT whizz) Other than that does anyone know what it might be or why/where it has gone?

I had a look at it while it was there and it basically had the same files on it that my c drive does.

My usual C drive was also visible while the second one was up.

Go on. Educate and embarass me.

Many thanks

as to whether you have any Virtual Drive sofware installed. It has been known to create Phantom drives.

"Shadowing" can occassionally cause this ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to Amazing appearing + disap ...

When your system is running the Shadow RAM system it keeps a regularly updated copy of everything you are doing, in a separate hard drive area in case your system crashes. When a crash occurs under these circumstances, your recovery time is around 1 to 2 seconds because the Shadow RAM kicks in to replace the crashed 'live' system to the point just before the crash occurred.

Shadow RAM does from time to time, invoke a full snapshot of your system that can be visible if you happen to be viewing the hard drive directories when it is doing it's updates.
