AMD 64 or Intel 64?

By jshtcm213 ·
If there are any Tech Gurus out there that can help me out, much thanks. I just read that Intel came out with their 64 bit cpu. Which of these processors is recommended for gaming. Am i better off sticking with a 32 bit Intel processor with a faster clockrate rather than a 64 bit 3000 with 2.0ghz clock rate. The only applications that I heard of for 64 bit are Windows XP 64, Far Cry, and Unreal Tournament. Is it too soon for applications to take advantage of 64 bit processing?

Hey, if you want to be an early adopter I aplaud you! Applications generally lag behind the hardware a bit so you will keep getting more choices and, as a bonus, your old stuff will also work! WooHoo! On the other hand you will be paying more for your hardware.

cool thanks, will regular xp pro 32bit, work perfectly with 64 bit Intel (of course using 32 bit drivers)?

I would wait before taking the plunge. I know it can be fun to be the fastest kid (big kid...aren't we all?) but I would let others be the first. JMHO

well, my neigbor has switched to 64 bit computing, and has 64 bit enabled windows.

his hardware support sucks from windows

his games don't work right in 64 bit

no sound in 64 bit

video card barely functions

wait until about a year after longhorn is released, then start looking at the 64 bit solutions.

Beware the driver shortage. Microsoft has its end covered with XP 64, but hardware manufacturers are nowehere near ready, as evidenced by a severe shortage of 64-bit drivers for a great deal of common hardware. You could very well find yourself with a sweet 64-bit chipset and no way to run your sound or video card under XP 64, because the vendor hasn't written the proper driver yet.

good **** guys, very helpful...

Now I think Im better off sticking with Intel P4 at least 3.0 Ghz. Im looking for a good processor that will support my new gaming pc.

I plan to get a motherboard that Supports DDR2, PCI Express, and sata hard drives. Am I lacking with my choice of Processor. Intel or AMD.

Will 32 bit apps and drivers work fine with Windows XP 64? I THOUGHT Longhorn was the codename for Windows XP 64?
