There may be another way around this.. see if there is a later bios revision for the motherboard type and flash it to the latest version.

Although risky it will overwrite the password and once again make it blank.

hope this helps,

jb

One way to clear a cmos password is to remove and replace the battery. Some boards have a jumper switch that will do the same thing.

Answer 1 from jb007*** is a dangerous option. Flashing the bios while a password is set can scramble the password and leave it in a non-changeable state, I am speaking from experiance here. I flashed the BIOS on one of my computers while the password was set and it was scrambled and cannot be changed, even by re-flashing with the older version of the BIOS. Try the method decribed by the other respondants, IE. remove the CMOS battery, or find the clear password jumper on the board. If this does not work then send me an email and I can supply a couple of other options.

this DOS Trick resets (deletes) your motherboard BIOS (CMOS) password, to grant acess to your computer and or BIOS SEtup once again, if you have lost it.
Exit Windows or reboot to the native MS-DOS mode, using the "Command Prompt Only" option fromthe Windows 9x Startup Menu (hold SHIFT and F5 at the same time while your PC boots.
At the C> prompt, type DEBUG prompt.Hit enter. You will see a dash(-)atb the Debug prompt. Now type:o7 2e which will show as -o70 2e at the Debug Prompt. Hit enter Then type 71 ff and hit enter. Finally type Qand hit Enter one last time, to quit DEBUG, back to the C Now you are ready to reboot your PC, and press the appropriate key or combo to acess your BIOS SETUP. You will Notice that password is gone.
This only works with MS-DOS 6.00-6.22 and
MS-DOS 7.XX[a.k.a.MS Windows 95-9.
