An Odd Okidata Dot Matrix Problem

By msimone69 ·
Hello -

We currently use an Okidata ML393 Plus for printing invoices, etc. on pre-printed 8" by 4" forms. I have run into an unusual problem while setting up a second ML393 Plus. If I preview the invoices before printing all is well. However,if I don't preview them, they print the invoices but spaced out as if they were printing to 8" by 11" forms. Both printers seem to have identical settings (unless I missed something), and use the Generic/Text-only drivers.

Any direction in troubleshooting this issue is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Mike Simone

An Odd Okidata Dot Matrix Problem

by MallardtooXX In reply to An Odd Okidata Dot Matrix ...

Mike,
I used to have some okidata printers, I am not saying they were the same but the problem was. To trouble shoot them I would check a couple of things.
-1 are there any dipswitches on the printer? In this day and age one would thinkno but it is possible that there are and there may be a descrepency between teh two models settings.
-2 are they network ready printers? If so make sure you have the addresses and names set up correctly. Generally this really makes no difference but it may help.
-3 are they on a print server? If they are then you MUST make sure they have the same configuration on the server. I have those stupid linksys print servers in one of my locations and I will swear that Linksys is out to drive me nuts.
-4 and Finally are you sure you installed the printers into the system exactly the same? If you have one that works and one that doesn't then I am inclined to believe there may be a unchecked box or a missed setting somewhere, I saythis because I once spent a week and a lot of money trying to fix a problem that I over looked and never thought of again. Try uninstalling the "bad" printer and reinstall it and double check your settings as you go.
I hope this helps
-duck

Mike,
Here's exactly what you need to do.
Your opriginal 393 probably has the internal page size set to 4 inches.

You need to access the printers internal setup from the control panel while turning the printer on.

As you look at the control panel buttons the settings MENU functions are stenciled below the buttons. The menu prints on the paper, so if your forms are exensive put in some waste paper cause going through all the settingscan waste quite a bit of paper. As you go through each item and selection it prints a line on the page then skips about 2 inces before printing the next line.

The menu works in items, and selections. So as you press (scroll) the button each item name will be printed. Once you get to the item (page size) hit seletion till it prints the desired size.

Turn the printer off and back on.

If you use serial connections it's best to keep a copy of the printers settings page just in case the settings get changed.
