We had our company website contact page hijacked a few months ago, and we were getting 60 messages at a time that we hitting a distribution list email address. All the content of the emails were all random text messages. In that distribution list, there were only two users. We resolved the issue shortly there after. A couple of days ago, the rule that was set to dump those messages to the deleted folder began pushing the mail from the other member of that distribution list into the deleted folder. Granted, the 2nd user was not being dumped to the deleted folder during the time when the original rule was set. After we deleted the rule… everything went back to normal. How in the hell is it that a rule that was created MONTHS ago that did one thing, could be affecting something completely different today? …ghost in the machine….
