We have started integrating a few Gateway laptops into our company and have come across an annoying problem which nobody (Gateway, HP) seems to be able to give me any direction on. I have some Gateway Solo 2500s and Solo 2550s with HP 880C or 950C Desk Jets. Upon startup of the laptop, the printers try to print out a page. When they do print an "e" with a "^" above it is all that prints. This doesn't occur when the printer is connected via USB. Any ideas?

Do you have McAfee virus running on Laps?
Try removing printer and all drivers...
Re-boot in safe mode and check device mgr. for errant entry of COM and LPT and restart 2 times to clean reg. Re-install printer w/ latest HP drivers.
Best luck.
