Another Win2K Backup Question Where to f

By jodyc ·
Here is the script I am using. I want the tape to automatically do a backup and If you want to do a restore, the catalog is already loaded into NTBackup. Also at the end to do an Eject. I can't seem to get the syntax right. Please help I'm followingQ239892 and trying to use the Unmanaged Method to closer mimic my NT4 scheduled backup scheme.
@ECHO OFF
NTBACKUP BACKUP SYSTEMSTATE C\ /M NORMAL /D "Complete System Backup" /V:YES /R:YES /L:F /RS:NO /HC:ON /P "4mm DDS" /um

Im sending the document that relates to this issue. You can use the backup utility to create much of your script for you. The backup utility creates it for you and they you can use rsm to find the guid to eject your tape.

Another Win2K Backup Question Where to f

Thanks for the Info Oz. I hope to be able to ask you questions in the future. What happend is I got my DOS programmer to write me an exe in power basic that creates an eject.bat file. This .bat has the current date and time from the system and inputs it into the default label. eg: rsm /eject /pf"default label" /astart

This basially makes ntbackup 2k run exactly like the good ol' nt 4.0 backup which is all I require.

Thanks.

Another Win2K Backup Question Where to f

by Shanghai Sam In reply to Another Win2K Backup Ques ...

Ok This is how far I've gotten so far. I need to have this working for Monday. Everything seems ok except for the eject. I cannont seem to get the GUID or Friendly name properly to run the eject. Check out the syntax and tell me what is wrong. I getthe error when trying to eject Convert string to GUID failed. GUID given is probably wrong. I've tried different ones but none seem to work. I have even tried the friendly name as well with no success. I havea a feeling because im useing the /um switch this is messing me up.
Comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

start /wait rsm.exe refresh /lf"4mm DDS"
NTBACKUP BACKUP SYSTEMSTATE C\ /M NORMAL /D "Complete System Backup" /V:no /R:YES /L:F /RS:NO /HC:ON /P "4mm DDS" /um
RSM EJECT /pg "987DD585F51744F983FC22D701A6F729" /astart
