Anti-Porn Apps Need Solutions to iOS Sandbox Restrictions

    by bmacy4 ·

    Hello everyone,

I’ve been working on ways to implement stricter accountability systems for personal use, especially to prevent access to NSFW content in apps like Reddit and Twitter. The main challenge is that iOS sandboxing and privacy policies block apps from monitoring or interacting with other apps on the system.

While Apple’s focus on privacy is important, there’s a clear need for an opt-in exception for accountability tools. These tools could be allowed enhanced permissions under stricter oversight to help users maintain accountability and integrity without compromising safety.

Here are a few ideas I’ve been thinking about:
    1. Vetted Apps with Enhanced Permissions: Allow trusted applications to bypass sandbox restrictions with user consent and close monitoring by Apple.
    2. Improved Parental Controls: Add options to send notifications to moderators (like accountability partners) when restrictions are bypassed or disabled.
    3. Custom Keyboard or API Access: Provide a framework for limited system-wide text monitoring for specific use cases, again with user consent.

If anyone has ideas for how to address this within current policies—or suggestions for advocating for more flexibility—I’d appreciate the input. I’m curious how others have handled similar challenges or if there are better approaches I haven’t considered.

Make it a web site. No app required.

      Done.

      How would that work?

Making it a website would be able to get passed the privacy policies on iOS? I am pretty new to this and that doesn’t make sense to me

I don’t think that would work.

A website can only monitor browser activity and nothing else. I need it to monitor app activity as well. It’s alap easily bypassed by closing the browser or using other apps.

PARENTAL CONTROLS and Content Blocker Apps already exist.

Also, it’s MY DEVICE and I’ll do whatever I want.

Maybe you’re trying to create yet another PARENTAL CONTROL app. But I would be guessing.
Or yet another Content Blocker App.

On top of that, just because you block on that device, how would you block it at the library and friend’s home?

FIN: There’s no money in this app and far too many ways around it.

The issue is that none of these apps work.

Not at all looking for money. If I were able to develop this app it would be free but honestly I’m only wanting this for my own phone.

None of these apps that I’ve tried have been able to monitor in-app activity because of apples privacy policies.

I came here for ideas because I have none

I haven’t seen a free to develop iOS app for decades.

The last time we looked at iOS was in the 2000’s and Apple has erected a lot of thousand dollar barriers to free apps.

Break Apple Policies discussions are DOA.

Since it’s only your phone, you can use self control and we’re back to done.

I don’t understand why you’re being a jerk about this. Also why do you keep saying “it’s my device” I’m not trying to change your device or anyone else’s. Only my own.

Then it would be a security breach for all.

And about your device, you already know what YOU WANT. So no app is required.

          You completely missed the point.

I was looking for ideas on how to further restrict my phone. Not trying to breach anyone’s security.

Hoping for ideas on how to do it and not breach anyone’s security.

At the very least all you had to do was not respond. But thanks for being a dick.

If the Apple doesn’t do what you want, why not move to a more open platform?

No one I know will assist in breaking Apple security.

I also wasn’t planning on publishing any apps.

Your list numbered 1,2,3 in your first post is about (1) enhanced permissions in iOS, (2) options in iOS, and (3) a framework in iOS,
That really doesn’t sound as just some change to your own phone to prevent you from doing things you don’t want to do.
