What is the best antivirus program that can update a client without intervention ? Or that can be made to push to the user transparently ?

We're using Network Associates McAffe. WIn9x, NT and 2K platform, automated updates for virus signatures and engine releases. It can be configured to be transparent to the client, and more than this, you can orchestrate a full deployment without the user even knowing it. NAI offers a tool called Policy Orchestrator that will do that. If you are serious about this and work in an enterprise environment, I'd suggest you have a look at www.nai.com

TrendMicro's NeaTSuite offers these features also. It allows you to configure login scripts so, when a client logs on, it can deploy the AV product or update the client with new definitions. It also allows for a central download server, which can distribute the definitions to the Trends different products.
The NeaTSuite product includes lic's for ServerProtect (for your servers), ScanMail (for Exchange), OfficeProtect (for the desktops) and InterScan (for SMTP). All at a price of about $25 per user.

We have been using Computer Associates Innoculate. We use a server to download updates and push it out to clients. Is very transparent to user.

I've received a number of poor reviews with the Symantec product, and encountered problems myself. I'm sure everyone's also aware about the big problems that occurred with AnnaKournikova.vbs. NAV 7.5 didn't even see it. I was thinking about rolling it out to a new shop, but have since reconsidered. There's another company called Panda that I'm looking at, but they're a little expensive.

Have a look at VET - its an Australian company, now owned by Computer Associates. I find thier software easy to use, and easy to force regular updates to all clients over a network.

Steeer clear of Symantic - Thier sfotware to push updates out over a netwrok is an absolute pain to set up, operate and keep operating - you have to manually update it with every new workstation/server added to the network.
