Any Ideas??

By dhorvath ·
One of my users has a Windows XP Home Edition OS. No anti-virus or firewall software installed(with the exception of XP's, which is not enabled) On the internet connection which is over a fiber optic network that they connect to via cat 5 they loose internet connection only at night around 7pm EST. During the day and early morning they can connect to the internet. I have checked the Fiber Optic Light levels which are within the manufacturers range. I've tested the cat 5 which is fine. And also did some testing on their NIC, this is also fine. I also was able to experience the loss of internet connection by going over to their premise when they could not connect and connect my laptop on the same line and successfully go on the internet. I believe there is a virus or worm on their computer since it only happens at specific times of the day. Is there anything else this could be?

System Restore?

If you have a daily system restore point set, then XP will temporarily disconnect network traffic so that no changes can be made during the recording of a restore point....

Just a thought!

Check the users account settings to see if the user has any time restrictions.
