Any Zope users out there?

By aaron_myers ·
I am interested in creating a learning portal for our local college. I was planning on using PHP/MySQL for the background, but I wonder if a tool like Zope could take a lot of the work out of it.

Any other suggestions. Constraints are money and maintenance (should be easy for instructors to post content).

You can use MySQL as a backend database for Zope. All Zope content can be easily updated over the web. The same is true for 90% of website administration. Authentication is built-in with Zope. The new Zope CMF (Content Mgmt Framework) would be useful to you but discussions on the email list indicate a steep learning curve. Zope is very good at separating programming, layout and content tasks. FTP and Webdav support is builtin to Zope. Adding functionality such as a slashdot, bbs or photogallery is as easy as installing a product, creating an instance of the product and making a link to the instance of the product. Usually setup for these products is accomplished by editing properties in the product and installing your own files.
