Thought I’d delve into something different in order to alleviate the boredom of my otherwise dull computer life. So I got hold of a pair of Flip-Up Anaglyph SHADES to clasp over my Varifocals.
I more or less stumbled upon the 3D capabilities of the newer Nvidia drivers one day, had a scan through their Performance Listing for all the games that support the effect and thought to myself “Why the hell not!”
Sadly, I reckon this could still do with a bit of tweaking here and there, or maybe it’s just a reflection of my own personal taste in games – most of mine are NOT in the ‘Excellent’ performance rating for 3D, so I’ve got to fiddle about with the In-Game menus in order to achieve a reasonable result.
Having said that – CRYSIS and CRYSIS:WARHEAD and LEFT4DEAD are all in the Excellent rating and, quite honestly, have me shrieking like the madman that I am, at the depth of field effects.
I still can’t get X3:Terran Conflict to run on Windows 7 for some reason. It’ll install OK, it just won’t run. I’d have liked to ‘see’ that in 3D.
Must just tell you – there was a knock at the door this afternoon and I’ve gotten quite good wandering round the flat without noticing the anaglyph anymore, so opened the door with the ‘shades’ DOWN. The 2 ‘messengers from God’ looked at each other and walked away rather sharpish, never said a word!
So, even if you find anaglyph doesn’t work for you…. IT STILL MIGHT!!

Windows 7 64-bit, Core2Duo E8500 3.16GHz, 8GB DDR2 800MHz RAM, Nvidia 8800GT 512MB – the Stereoscopic capability came with the latest drivers. The PhysX engine works properly too now that I’ve got access to “Vista-Only” DX10.
