Anyone have any experience with a Medical Program called Genie?

OK I know I don’t do medical normally but this one just sort of crept in on me.

I got a phone call today from a Surgeon who insisted that I fix the problem at his surgery. As he is close to retiring he has allowed one of the Doctors who rent rooms at his Surgery/Patrice to install a 3 Client Network and a Small Server running Windows 2003 Enterprise Server and the Clients are running XP Pro.

The original problem was that the Network was down and they had no access to anything. I unplugged the Switch allowed it to sit for about 30 seconds and then plugged it back in and everything was working on the Network at least though the Medical Program called Genie was no longer sharing it’s DBase. The Server was down so I rebooted it and then started the Program of Genie Server on it and set about attempting to get the Clients to log in through the Genie Client Application loaded on the Clients. I found the following Ports blocked 23 & 19813 so I created an Exception in the Windows Firewall at both the Clients & Server for these ports and promptly got one of the Doctors Clients to log on. Unfortunately none of the other Clients would but I now had one working so I at least thought that I was getting part way there so I repeated setting the Exception to all the Clients and tried again.

Nothing worked though I can Ping the Server or Clients without problems from any Client or the Server and while I know that it’s a Software Issue I don’t know what to attempt next as I have one Client Working but none of the others and I’m at a loss now.

Of course I tried the Obvious and called the maker only to be told that I’ve done everything right and the Help Desk Person doesn’t know anything about Networking which is helpful.

But as the Software seems to be the immediate problem once I cured the LAN Problem I didn’t want to rush headlong into making changes that may be harder to undo if required. After spending 25 minutes talking to the Makers Help Desk I came to the conclusion that I was on my own as while I’m the first to admit that I know nothing about this program I came to the conclusion that I know more that the Help Desk does and this was the first time that I had ever seen this particular piece of software but at least I could run a Ping Command from the CLI and confirm that the problem is no longer in the Hardware but related to the Software.

BTW the Server Logs are showing no errors and I’m currently grasping at straws so if anyone has any ideas I’m all ears.

If any more information is required please ask and I’ll post any thing required.
