Anyone heard of/experienced this isssue?

By shasca ·
Suspected patch issued on Nov 25th is causing mass system crashes. It unfortunately doesn give the # of the patch. I pulled off the half dozen approved patches from our WSUS just in case.

What did you do about approving the patches from the 24/25th?

KB915597 and KB976098

Seem to be the cause.

See the update at the bottom of the article, just above the comments.

When the issue occurs the WinLogon Shell entry for Explorer.Exe becomes invalidated. The entry exists perfectly in the registry but is unusable/inaccessible and is therefore ignored by the OS resulting in the desktop and task bar not being loaded. This entry is frequently the target of malware so tightening access to it is probably a good thing. However, the black screen condition is the only sign of the problem, leaving non technical users with a major challenge.

Yes, strange it hasn't made a bigger splash here.

But Michael seems to be into ants today, and usually he's into security and interesting technologies.

But hey, yeah. Where's Patch? :0

Could be Tryptophan............

That may be part of the problem.

by seanferd In reply to Maybe!!!

But another issue that seems fairly popular with Win 7 is Explore crashing or not loading.
Been around awhile, apparently, and no good articles on that, either.
