71 year old mother recuping from surgery for 60 days in nursing home longs for her PC and internet access. Cousin loans her old Fugitsu laptop w/ win95. Mom loads AOL 5.0 and figures she will use the 60 days free deal until she get’s home. She calls me, wants casino games on internet…site requires “java enabled browser”…doesn’t like AOL5.0. I have her shut down AOL, launch IE, check vs. ( 3.0 ), try to update at MS site..got error msg from “FileAid95″ ( like Crashguard?)..disabled that…still no download…gave up, machine locked up, rebooted…when it came up unable to log into AOL…get’s as far as entry of username/passwd..then hangs…”little spinning thing stops”, “no little picture of computer” down in lwr right hand corner ( Mom says )…reload AOL..nothing. Call AOL support ( 3 times )..nothing. Best and brightest of my pals have spent hours on the phone looking for solution…nada. Any great ideas ( other than toss the laptop, and send her back home to her “real pc” )??? I would appreciate it.
