AOL & IP Addresses

By draiche ·
I am using a Linksys Print server with a hard coded IP address, it works fine until someone starts AOL 7 (win 95/98 machines). This now changes the address on that PC for the print server from 192.168.1.3 to 64.252.248.234, Thus preventing the PC from printing. Upon exiting AOL it returns to the proper address. AOL is being accessed over a DSL line not dial up. Linksys support has been no help. Any ideas?

AOL & IP Addresses

by Joseph Moore In reply to AOL & IP Addresses

When you install AOL, it creates an AOL Adapter, kind of a virtual network card for AOL to use.
Now, when the user connects to AOL over DSL, the AOL Adapter gets an IP address from the AOL DHCP server, in order to access the AOL network.
So that would explain the IP problems.
I suggest not letting the user who is on the print server connect to AOL.
Someone else might know of an AOL fix. I don't.

hope this helps
