First off, although AOL will work on some systems, it is technically not supported under windows 2000. BUT...I'm not sure where you say that it is not allowing a port to be assigned. You could enter the setup part of AOL and choose expert setup. Click on devices and then choose properties for the modem listed. It will show you what type of modem you have and what port and the other settings for it. Try using a Hayes Compatible modem, they have a lot of luck working. Just make sure you set the modem listing as the default.

I have also had the same problem. I'm using a BookPC with a HSP56 AudioModem Riser and AOL does not detect the modem as well as it does not assign a port number, in Win2K. I don't think the modem is compatiable with Win2k. I have been looking for a driver update for it. But have failed to find one. If anyone knows of a place to download an updated driver for the HSP56 AudioModem Riser. please email me @ trint@hotmail.com THANK YOU.
