i have got a new motherboard as it crashed on me last night.

However I am having problems shutting of Windows Xp Professional. Let me explain I have got a AMD 1.3 ghz processor fitted onto the new motherboard. The bloke who did it for me and dida repair on the Windows Xp so I would not have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall my software. When I come to shut it down it shuts down but gives me the message that it is save to turn my computer off and does not turn my computer or screen of for me.

I have checked in the Power options Scheme to see if there is a Advanced Power Management(APM) in and there is not.
When i go to Power Options Schen there is no APM tab in the properties device

Do you think that Windows Xp still thinks it is running the old motherboard.

What do you suggest?

John

i believe that the operating system is still running of the old registry and is therefore still thinking that it is on the old motherboard... the only way as far as i know to get around this problem is to format your Hard Drive and completely reinstall Windows.

That way the OS will recognise the new motherboard
