appcompat error

appcompat error
I have run across this error on several machines. I get a message that an app has caused an error and has to close. It wants to send the following file C:\DOCUME~1\username\LOCALS!1\Temp\WER2.tmp.dir00\accompat.txt. On three of these machines it kept the app from working at all. I finally had to reformat the PC to get all the apps to work correctly.

How can I find out what is causing this and how to fix it without reformatting? Thanks ahead of time for your help.

First thing to do is disable error reporting in the Services tab of the System configuration Utility, then reboot

Some possible causes or fixes for the error:
1. Your default user profile contains an incompatible program.
2. The file belongs to a media software, which is part of the kaza package. it's something like delfin media. uninstall this program, and you problem will be solved. go to control panel, then add&remove, and then find this media and remove it.
3. Often involved with MS Word; its plug-ins or error reporting to MS.
4. Appcompat.txt is an error file generated by the compatibility mode of windows xp when a program crashes unexpectedly.
5. Empty your temp folder and do a virus scan.
6. Give administrator privileges to the user with the error message.
7. May arise from a MS update; MS02-070 was mentioned in one post.
8. Another post blamed an AOL update.
9. Replace your processor or motherboard (some disagree that it is a hardware problem).
10. Upgrade the BIOS
