Applications/icons not responding

By ctajbakhsh ·
Compaq Presario bought with win98se preinstalled. Now with windows 2000 advanced server. AMD K7. 256MB ram. sp2 installed.

after about half an hour to one hour of logging in all icons become inactive and don't respond to mouse click. only icons next to time logo at extreme right hand of the task bar respond OK. Also, ATI TV launch pad can be activated. them same with ATI DVD, etc. but not any other sound icons like real audio etc. I have disabled PoweManagement, screen saver, wallpaper...no use. my remedy is to log off and login. then everything is OK for another hour or so. I heard you are of great help in dead end situations such as this one. Can you please help?
Thanks
Cyrus

I recommend that you use regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and remove any lines with "hibernation" in it.

Disabling power management from the bios is fine... now you need to remove it from your Windows startup.

Your RUN statement in the registry may be in a different location.... I don't have access to Win2K right now.

Answer 1: There is no "hibernation" anywhere in the registry specially in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \Run.

Answer 2: Where run statement is supposed to be? Your answer didn't help

Thank you anyway for trying

I would suggest you use a program like ICON builder or ICON dropper to repair the ICONS. I suspect that there was a compatibility problem with the Win98 to Win2000 upgrade.
