Applying to USA from Asia in big firm?

by ben_heuer . Updated 25 years, 8 months ago

Hello:

I am a “third world” citizen. I have worked with a big5 firm in Hong Kong for under a year in a technology consulting position. I have most of the latest technology skills (Java, PHP, Oracle, XML, Intershop etc), am a top class communicator — have been a journalist in my country before — and have a Masters degree.

I recently left the big5 for a start-up consulting firm here in Hong Kong, where my salary is what I believe I deserve — triple the amount that I used to get with thebig5. Also, I am in a more senior position now: I lead the IT team.

However, I realise that I am now interested in moving to the US for a more global experience.

Questions:

1. Will big firms in USA (big5, Scient/Sapients, management consulting firms) directly recruit from Asia?

2. What about the immigration hurdles?

I’d appreciate any pointers/advice!

Thanks.
