Arabic/English under XP – HELP

by bewildered (most of the time) . Updated 20 years, 3 months ago

I have been trying to set up a PC (unbranded so I don’t know anything about the motherboard, processor etc).

The machine is slow but runs Windows XP and Office 2003. Its main task is to churn out Word documents in English and Arabic. I have responsibility for a number of machines which run under both languages and this has never been a problem before.

The initial problem was that only Arabic numbers would appear in the Arabic documents when Hindi numbers were required.

I decided to re-install XP as the person who set the machines up managed several incomplete installations. This appears to have been successfully completed. I then deleted and re-installed Office. I checked and completed all the steps outlined under the Regional Settings.

Now I either have English appearing on both sides when I type or Arabic. The number problem has not been resolved. I have tried everything I have read on the web and the machine appears properly set up for bi lingual documents. I don’t know if this is relevant but I can transfer languages in Wordpad.

I am at the end of my tether – can anyone please help me?
