archived files

I have computer with XP PRo and SP1 on it. The back up data is on a second harddrive.
I reinstalled the XP and can see the Win98se PC’s on the Network but when I try to access the files from a Win98 box it says that I do not have permission to access the files,
If I right click the folder on the XP box the only option is read only or archive.
Does anyone have and idea on how to resolve this?
