Are Client Acess Licenses (CALs) neccessary for communication btw servers?

I am about to implement some new servers (Windows Server 2008). I realize that I need client access licenses for all my users or devices that will connect to these servers. Does this include other servers? For example, if I implement 15 servers running Windows Server 2008, do I technically need 15 device CALs so that all of these boxes have permission to access each other? In addition to this, say I have about 25 Server 2003 boxes. Do I need a CAL for each of them as well, so that they can legitimately talk to the new servers (as well as each other)?

MS doesn’t seem to make an exception for other servers: “In addition, a Windows Server 2008 Client Access License (CAL) is required for each user or device (or combination of both) that accesses or uses the Windows Server 2008 server software.”
