Are there any android emulators for Windows that will work with DS cam ?

    Locked

    by GKL333 ·

I am trying to run an android app, DS cam, on a Windows computer.

I have already tried Bluestacks and LDplayer without success.

Searching online I read someone basically say emulators seem to be geared towards game apps instead of non-game apps, so I am wondering if any emulator will work with DS cam.

Anyhow I figured it would not hurt to ask just in case someone has had success with getting an android emulator to work with using DS cam on a Windows computer.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions !

I looked up DS Cam and see Synology offers

Some PC based tool/app to see the cameras. This means we don’t need the Android emulation here.

Thanks for the reply and idea, it is appreciated, but the reason I was wanting to use DS cam on Windows is because so far no matter what I tried the PC app download client they have for Windows has choppy video, whereas the DS cam on my phone runs with a lot smoother video even though both the phone and the PC are using the same WIFI connection with about the same internet speed.

So for some reason the DS cam software seems to simply work better.

Even if you got DS Cam to run in emulation

My bet is that it would be choppy as emulation has a lot of overhead. The only emulation I use is the one that comes with Android Studio but that’s far too hard on everyday users to setup. It’s also quite huge as to install at 1 or more GB.

When I set it up I had to go get some Intel acceleration packages which helps get performance on par with my phone at the time but the laptop was some i7-9700 16GB RAM, all SSD and a nice GTX 1070 GPU.

Is your PC up to this task?

Okay, thanks, I’m no expert on emulators, it’s just that I had did a search online and saw pages saying you could use DS cam on a PC with an emulator.

But if an emulator requires a lot a resources then I can see your point in that it might not work as good as it does on my phone.

As far as my computer it is a somewhat older model, a Toshiba Satellite running Windows 10 Home version with:

          Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1005M @ 1.90GHz 1.90 GHz
          16GB Ram
342GB free space on a SSD

(I do have other computers, at least one is newer, but the Synology client for PC is choppy on those too)

But if you feel I likely won’t get the smoother video like I do on my phone then it might not be worth the trouble.

I might have to keep trying to see if somehow I can get the Synology PC client software to work better.

          Thanks again !

For those who might have missed it in my original post where I said:

“I have already tried Bluestacks and LDplayer without success.”

      (end of quote)

I am wondering if android emulators are more designed for games rather than programs like DS cam.

I guess unless I find another solution I might have to hope that Synology might eventually consider making a Windows version of DS cam.

Have you used Nox Player? MEmu Play is another excellent choice. You can run DS Cam and other Android apps with ease using these emulators.

        Might run, but stutter, etc.

Look at the PC in question. An emulator won’t fix that!

Thanks for the added info, but I also tried those emulators on a “newer” (2019) computer without success either.

I tried it on an Acer Aspire 5 with:

AMD Ryzen 3 3200U Dual Core Processor (Up to 3.5GHz)
32GB DDR4 Ram (I had upgraded the ram)

Now I am not sure just how souped up a computer has to be to run an emulator, but if a super powered gaming computer is needed costing over $500 then I’ll just have to find another solution.

but thanks anyhow for your input, it is appreciated as I was not very familiar with emulators and had wondered if maybe some of them were easier to successfully install and use.

Thanks for those suggestions, have not tried those, after trying the two I mentioned without success I thought I needed to get more info and ideas before trying any others.

I can see about giving them a try later on when I have a fair chunk of time to focus on installing them, then afterwards I can see about posting with the results either way if either one worked for me or not.

(Sounds like you might be familiar with trying DS Cam thru an emulator so that is encouraging)

        Thanks again !
