Arghhhh...rebuilding a friend's computer and re-installed World of Warcraft

By robo_dev ·
Had no idea.

The install from DVD took around four hours to install around 7GB of programs, then the program updated itself automatically. The update/patch to version 4 was around 4GB. Even on my fast VDSL line, it took around three hours to download and install the patch.

It's not like I had to sit there and watch it install, but it took nearly eight hours, start-to-finish, to install ONE program. WoW!

I've never played the game, will try it before delivering the system back to my friend.

12-15 gigs is average now

For a full RPG
Shooters average around 6-10 gigs
Racing games sit around 4-7 gigs

Its the texture libraries that cause the size, and an RPG frequently has a lot of different textures.

Well that is bad

When I played Battlefield 2 it came on DVD as well, but closer to 4 GB. Then there was generally a big patch to install, another 2-3 GB. But I could download the patch in advance, and the whole process would take me under an hour.

Now I'm on a cable modem, it would be even faster.
