I have one XP machine that will not keep it’s icons arranged the way I set them on the Desktop. Here’s what happens. I’ll choose the Desktop folder (or go to the Desktop)and Arrange Icons by > Name. The icons will change position and be arranged properly until I close the folder and open it again. I have the “Remember each folder’s view settings” check box selected in Folder Options. The icons will go back the same order they were in but I can’t figure out what that arrangement is. I’ve arranged the icons by “name”, “size”, “type”, and “modified” and none of the results I get from doing that match the order the icons always revert to.
I regularly keep my A/V and spyware scans and patches up to date.
Any ideas? I’m guessing it’s a dorked up registry entry but I don’t know.
