asus txp4(socket7plus) -harddrive-proble

By europanorama ·
despite bios-update-trials, i have huge problems starting harddrive with installed winme.
1. harddrive was copied(with ghost)on a second board and is working. when i mount it in the asus txp4(ver.2.00)-board, fdisk does not see a partition. if i want to make it, fdisk stops at a certain moment. harddisk has no problems and is turning. harddrive is autodetected in bios.

Check the main board site to see what hard drives are usable with the board. If you use older slower hard drives with newer cables your mother board will run faster then the drive and not see it. You can slow the board down but why would you? Drivesare cheap now, did you try the drive manager? It should work with ME. No sorry if you ghost it you need to ghost from one exact system to another. All cards, mainboard and setup need to be the same.

i have to use this drive- a samsung 32163A-2.1 gb. using a copy made with ghost is not a problem or the problem. windows will change the settings.
i cannot find a drive manager at samsungelectronics. maybe its a drive made by someone else? it lookslike a conner/now with seagate. the problem is: the drive worked, windows me worked but suddenly it stopped working. ontrack and gwscan say its ok.

i will now check a drive of mine. a 1.6 gb

The bios of the hard drive might not be compatible with the mainboard. You would think a bios flash would solve the problem, but at times it doesn't.

Have you tried to manualy entering the drive paramaters in the bios setup? Might be worth a shot.

I also remember you saying that you installed the OS from a ghost setup. Did you ever change the jumper settings back to having it as a master?

I don't know what else to tell you. I'm still a little confused why you would want to run ME on a 2.1GB hard drive. The OS itself almost takes up 1/3 of the drive. You can by 40GB (7200rpm) harddrives for around $70 bucks. (Just a suggestion)
