ATA 33 UltraATA 66 and Ultra ATA 100

Assuming your motherboard supports the varios ATA speeds, what happens when you have a mix of hard drives installed? In other words, if I have an ATA66 drive and a ATA100 drive on the same machine, will they both run at their respective speeds or will they default to the lower speed?
