I have spent the past hours trying to find something on this to no avail! is there something I can do here-- It happened about a month ago took it to a tech and I lost data on a 160 gig sata and a 80 gig ide. Got a new hard drive and now its doing it on the new 160 gig-- I dont want to buy another hdd because of this darn problem. HELP ME PLEASE!! THANKS

A couple of checks

by Jacky Howe In reply to atapi.sys bsod

Have you installed any Virtual Drive software like Daemon Tools. If you have try uninstalling it.

You could run the sfc /scannow command to have XP's System File Checker look at all the important system files and make sure they are not corrupted.

Have you added any memory (RAM) to the PC recently. If you have put it back to the way that it was before.

Check the Cable and Connectors if it is an IDE Cable try another IDE Cable.

Have you got access to another CD\DVD Drive. If you have swap it over and see if you are still having problems.

Possibly a pointless question

Do you have a version of DOS installed on the HDD, where you are booting DOS then trying to install XP?
