For starters, here’s my system info:
AMD Athlon 64X2 5200+ Windsor
BioStar TForce 7025 mobo
XFX NVidia 8500GT 512mb PCIX-16
2x1gb G.Skill DDR2 800
My building experience is limited, so please bare with me while I attempt to explain.
My startup core1 temp (according to BIOS and Speedfan) is 47c. First thing that came to mind is a bad seating on the heatsink, so I re-did that…with no change. Cool-n-quiet is enabled, the fan on the case seems to be running, as I can feel air coming out the back of it.
However, what really concerned me was this morning my core2 and core3 (northbridge?) were reading at a whopping 127c! I left everything on last night to download necessities, and I woke up to everything being turned off: I can only assume temps reached critical and turned itself off. :/
Speedfan is the only one I can get to work. Everytime I run CoreTemp, I get a nice BSOD. Aside from having to hock my cellphone to buy a decent heatsink or watercooler, what can I do to cool this baby off? I just want to preserve my $450 investment, as that cash was hard to get.
