Athlon4-1.2 MHz mobile CPU & PowerNow!

By Shanghai Sam ·
How can I tell if PowerNow! is active on my Compaq 715US laptop (Windows XP-Home)and how do I activate it in the first place?

Compaq's technical support has told me that there should be a PowerNow! tab in the Power applet of Control Panel; it isnot there. They have also told me to look in Add/Remove Programs for an AMD program; it is not there. I am currently awaiting a call from the second level of Compaq's tech support (probably Monday).

Microsoft has a fix (Q30645 consisting of a new driver for the processor and a new key for the registry; that didn't work either.

AMD has not answered my e-mail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Athlon4-1.2 MHz mobile CPU & PowerNow!

by ElCamino In reply to Athlon4-1.2 MHz mobile CP ...

Windows XP has PowerNow! built into it. To access it select Portable/Laptop from Power Schemes tab. Always on mode puts the processor into max performance mode. The other schemes control processor performance based on demand. As I understand all other Operating Systems will show the PowerNow! tab. There is no PowerNow! tab in Win XP. I Hope this helps.
