ATI Radeon Drivers for Windows/ME

By mylcworth ·
I'm trying to install a Radeon X1300 Pro on a system running Windows/ME and downloaded the drivers from CNET only to find that my system lacks some "software or hardware" needed for the installation. AMD/ATI "support" informs me that the card is not supported on Windows/ME.

Am I missing something or should your listing be updated to reflect this issue ?

The driver may actually work in ME

although it is not supported by AMD/ATI. Basically, AMD/ATI is trying to save on support costs by not supporting the OS with that card/driver, but that does not mean that the driver is a complete loss.

what SW or HW does it say you are missing?

The interesting part is that the message indicates no source (i.e. Driver install program or Setup wizard ) and of course it lists no components ( hardware or software ) by name or function.

Radeon drivers on Windows/ME

Thanks for the timely reply BUT that's where I got the driver application. If I had the driver modules I'd try installing them but they're buried in an executable.

Yes that is correct

This is because ATI incorporates their drivers in the Catalyst Application which controls the Video Chip Sets.

With all ATI Video Chip Sets you need to install th Catalyst Front End to have Full Functionality. :)

The site I pointed you to has the Catalyst Front End for ME there and that is what you require here. Things have been this way since the Windows 98 Days and the Catalyst App has been controlling the Video Chip Sets completely since then. You use the Catalyst App to change the Video Settings as apposed to the Display Proprieties in Windows.

ATI Radeon Drivers for Windows/ME

In searching for the drivers I may have been redirected to ZDNet site where the listing showed Windows/ME as a valid OS for the drivers.

Try these

The Omega drivers are based on the core ATI video driver, but omit the Catylst Control Centre (which most of us don't like).

Those are the last available drivers for 98/Me.
